There is a split approach to search engine marketing (SEM): on one hand is the immediacy and measurability of pay-per-click keywords and on the other hand the quality and sustainability from content rich informational websites. An article from this month’s edition of Internet Retailer highlights a guide of more than 300 keywords in 20 merchandising categories on Google. In the study, retailers occupied fewer than half of the three top spots in the 20 categories—29 out of a possible 60 positions. Why? The answer: relevant content trumps keyword buys in natural search results. And natural search results are crucial to your website’s success as an eCommerce store.
Content-driven eCommerce - we’ll talk more about this school of thought and its implications in future posts (hint: it is paramount to our marketing philosophy at Elias Interactive). But for now I’ll highlight the advantage of Wordpress. This website is built using Wordpress with meta-tags on each page pointing to keywords aimed at Magento. We launched a week ago and had 60 unique hits yesterday alone (impressive on a weekend just after a site launch), and about 600 page views within the past 6 days. And we are just getting started…
